Now that your eyes are open to the
unregulated beauty industry and importance of clean cosmetics, let’s tackle your skincare.
When products are put onto your skin, they’re absorbed into your bloodstream. It’s not uncommon to find ingredients like propylene glycol (antifreeze), mineral oil (a chemically-tainted byproduct of crude oil production), and triclosan (pesticide) in popular skincare brands. Due to the lack of regulation, these brands can also include ingredients that age your skin (sodium lauryl sulfates), cause cancer (oxybenzone, ethanolamines), and reduce your fertility (phthalates).
Since 2015, I’ve tried nearly every prominent non-toxic skincare brand on the market; below are my favorites in each category. The best part: they’re all from women-owned companies and under $90.
